Yes, Cork is very walkable. The city centre is built on an island between two channels of the River Lee, so the main streets, the English Market and most pubs and restaurants are within 10 to 15 minutes of each other on foot.
What you can reach on foot
From St Patrick’s Street you can walk to the English Market, Oliver Plunkett Street, the Crawford Art Gallery, the Cork Opera House and St Fin Barre’s Cathedral in a few minutes each. Shandon, Fitzgerald Park and UCC are a bit further but still an easy walk.
Watch out for the hills
The flat centre is easy going, but the northside climbs steeply. The walk up to Shandon and St Luke’s is short but tough, so wear comfortable shoes.
When you need transport
For Cobh and Fota Wildlife Park, take the train from Kent Station. Blarney and Kinsale are served by bus. You will not need a car to enjoy the city itself.
