Tom Robinson (b.1950) is a UK songwriter & broadcaster. Known in the 70s as an anti-racist and LGBT campaigner, he has released 19 albums with various bands between 1975-2001. He’s now an award-winning presenter at BBC Radio 6 Music.
Inspired by the new artists he has championed through his BBC Radio 6 Musicshows, Tom Robinson has returned with his first new album in twenty years Only The Now – made with award-winning producer Gerry Diver and released on Tom’s own Castaway Northwest Recordings.
The songs are as vibrant and edgy as any he’s ever written: the sound of a veteran craftsman – drawing on his long, rich fund of experience – with a renewed energy and purpose. Guests appearing on the record include John Grant, Billy Bragg, Martin Carthy, Colin Firth, Nadine Shah, Lee Forsyth Griffiths, Lisa Knapp, Sir Ian McKellen, TV Smith, and Nitin Sawhney.
His career started in 1975 and he enjoyed chart success fronting his own Tom Robinson Band (TRB) with hits such as Glad To Be Gay, 2-4-6-8 Motorway and Up Against The Wall. After releasing a further ten albums (which included the singles War Baby and Atmospherics: Listen To The Radio written with Peter Gabriel), he began hosting radio programmes on all the BBC’s major networks – where over the past 13 years he’s become a staunch champion of independent bands and emerging artists on BBC Radio 6 Music
The album is released on 16 October 2015 – preorder it from PledgeMusic to get an instant download of 2 tracks plus all the exclusive insider updates, videos and free tracks released tp Pledgers during 2015.
