THE FRETS

Time: 7:00 pm

Upstairs at The Oliver Plunkett we have ‘The Frets’ playing with the best of lively traditional Irish music! “It can be tricky to pin down an absolute definition for Irish Traditional Music. Like any art form, it will mean different things to different people. For some, it’s a relaxing set of jigs or reels at the end of a long day. For another, it’s the background rhythm behind a set or céilí dance.” For us it’s a cracking live music session where anyone can come along and tap to it, ‘the Frets’ are sure to provide just that!

THE VULTURES

Time: 10:00 pm

Admission: FREE

Downstairs at the Oliver Plunkett we have ‘The Vultures’ performing live! ‘The Vultures’ are an energetic blues/funk and rock based band which started out as a John Mayer Tribute act. Over time their set has evolved to include artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Bill Wither, The Police, Thin Lizzy and many more. The guitar driven Trio have been performing all over Ireland in 2015.

 

THE LEE SESSIONS

Upstairs at The Oliver Plunkett at “The Frisky Irish Whiskey Bar “The Lee Sessions is the umbrella term for all authentic, traditional Irish music sessions in Cork city. Supported by Cork City Council, this trad session series runs all year round, and features world-class musicians and singers, in Cork’s most iconic bars. These renowned sessions, which enhance Cork’s reputation as THE traditional music capital, are an absolute must-see, for locals and visitors alike!

 

THE MIDNIGHT RAMBLES

Time: 11:30 pm

Downstairs in the Oliver Plunkett ‘The Midnight Rambles’ will be performing. Inspired by Levon Helms creation of the same name, The Midnight Ramble is a collection of some of Corks best musicians coming together every Thursday night at midnight to blow the house down with a plethora of classic tunes. Led by John O Connor of John Blek and The Rats fame, this improvised musical session can take you on a journey traversing every genre of music, across multiple eras and can often feature surprise guest ramblers including Mick Flannery, Duke Special, Maura O Connell, Mickey Joe Harte, Joe O Leary, Evelyn Kallansee and many more. Every week, John is joined by some of the best local talent such as Anna Mitchell, Hank Wedel, Brian Hassett, Davey Ryan, Clare Sands, Eoghan “Regie” O Regan, Hugh Dillon, Mike O Riordan, Niall McCabe and tonnes more! Dave Fanning of 2FM regularly expresses his love for The Midnight Ramble as being one of the best gigs he has ever seen! On Every Thursday from Midnight it is one gig, not to be missed!
