Yossi Valdman will perform a set of his own songs on the 14th. Here is musical story in his own words.
“I was born in Jaffa, Israel and to came Ireland in 1981. My first band, “Blue Ocean” was formed in 1986. I joined as a drummer and percussion player. I also played drums with Medussa Redwood and in 1988 with Ton Ton Macoute or Tongs of Fire as they became known, Sinéad O’Connor’s former band. I formed my own first band in 1989, “Camouflage Blues Band” in Galway. Later I formed “The12 Bar Blues Company” in which I was guitarist and vocalist. I was also a member of Macnas street theatre company until 1992 when I went to London and formed ‘Acoustica’ with Rik Appleby who now runs “Lion Production” in West Cork. I came back to Ireland and worked as a solo jazz standard guitarist and vocalist joining Access music project from 1999-2001. I came to cork to study in the Cork Academy of Music and formed an academy band called Nothing Mad but Cool, a 7 piece. Later that year I formed a trio, Valdman Smith & Baus, known as VSB. Throughout that time I participated in singer & song-writer events organised by Bill Kennedy in Charlie’s bar and Geoff O’Hegan in the Slate bar. I have recently worked with the performance poet Rab Urquhart in his Sunday socials. I am currently working as a session musician playing jazz, trad and folk.”
