We all have people who witness our journey through life—family, friends, partners, or colleagues who follow us along the way. Many of them wish for us to stay the same, to hold onto the positions we’ve always had within our communities. But that’s never been the case for Efterklang. The Danish trio has always embraced change, welcoming new ideas, shifting directions, and collaborating with fresh voices. They are a band in constant evolution.
With their seventh studio album Things We Have In Common, the circle comes full circle. The process began with Altid Sammen, their fifth album, and continued with Windflowers in 2021. These albums marked a shift towards a more open and inclusive form of expression. It feels as though Efterklang has let go of previous constraints: harmonic tensions have softened, and the tonal language is clearer. Altid Sammen delved into human connection, Windflowers explored our bond with nature, and Things We Have In Common now focuses on collective spirituality and belonging.
Generosity flows through this album. It is music made for those seeking solace, offering the possibility of both understanding and release. It’s a sound of open arms, healing hands, and the acceptance of constant change.
“We participated in the People/37d03d residency in Berlin in 2018, and played SFSH in 2019—both experiences felt life-changing and deeply special! We’re humbled and thrilled to be hosting the finale this year!”
Efterklang has grown into an open, ever-evolving collective, with Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, and Rasmus Stolberg as its permanent members. Pianist and composer Rune Mølgaard, who left the band after their Parades album in 2007, has remained connected to Efterklang, and co-wrote seven of the nine tracks on their new album.
