Charlotte Cornfield’s Could Have Done Anything represents an exciting new direction for the Toronto-based singer-songwriter, following the acclaim of her album Highs in the Minuses. In a move that pushes her boundaries, she ventured alone to Dreamland Studios in New York’s Hudson Valley to collaborate with producer Josh Kaufman (Bonny Light Horseman). Over the course of six days, Cornfield and Kaufman played every instrument themselves, capturing the raw, unpolished essence of the songs as they came to life in the studio.
The album delves into themes of love, self-discovery, and openness, with tracks like the romantic “You and Me,” the uplifting “Gentle Like the Drugs,” and the stormy “In From the Rain” exploring these emotions. Drawing inspiration from timeless records like Tapestry and Blood on the Tracks, Cornfield crafts a deeply personal, reflective sound, embracing uncertainty and turning it into a beautiful and authentic expression of her artistic journey.
