Caroline Rose – Caroline Rose has mastered the art of musical transformation, effortlessly blending a wide range of genres across their albums. From psychobilly and pop to shoegaze, alt-country, folk, electronic, and experimental sounds, Rose creates a musical landscape that is both eclectic and captivating. Their work features sharp satire, perspective-altering narratives, and cinematic storytelling that immerses listeners in a unique world—the “weird buffet” of Rose’s mind. Whether it’s the alt-country charm of I Will Not Be Afraid, the psychobilly edge of LONER, or the self-produced synth-pop brilliance of Superstar (2020), Rose continually crafts an irresistible, multifaceted character that draws listeners in.

Their 2023 album, The Art of Forgetting, which features moody, exploratory tracks, received a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package, with the artwork designed by Caroline Rose. Rose continues to bring their diverse live shows to North America, Europe, and the UK, performing solo in intimate venues, leading raucous full-band sets, and even collaborating with orchestras like the London Contemporary Orchestra and Metropolis Ensemble.

On year of the slug, released exclusively on Bandcamp on February 7, 2025, Rose strips away all pretense, opting for simplicity and raw authenticity. “Sometimes it’s nice to have a pearl before it’s polished,” Rose explains. Recorded on a phone using GarageBand, slug offers listeners stripped-back songs in their purest form—no frills, no middleman. This album will not be available on streaming platforms.

La Force – XO SKELETON is the new album from La Force (Ariel Engle), a delicate yet powerful blend of haunted pop and sensual R&B. The album explores themes of life, death, and love, born from grief, memory, and introspection during the pandemic. Co-produced with longtime collaborator Warren Spicer, the album’s themes developed organically—triggered by an unexpected conversation with a life-insurance broker and shaped in the house where Engle grew up, married, and faced the loss of her father.

Engle’s stunning voice and emotionally charged songwriting take center stage throughout the record. Tracks like “condition of us” and “how do you love a man” delve into the complexities of love in the face of absence and uncertainty. XO SKELETON, written in part through an artist circle led by Phil Weinrobe (with peers such as Beck, Feist, and Maggie Rogers), is a poignant exploration of mortality and memory—both aching and sensual. It’s music that pulses with the scars and beauty of a body or the memory of one, capturing the essence of life in its rawest, most vivid form.
