Alchemy Coffee began as the Alchemy café and bookstore on Barrack Street, opened by Eoin Hurley and Ronan Power after the 2008 economic crash. Their mission was to offer the community “daycent coffee, cakes, treats and a space that offered freedom of expression during a time of economic depression.” The business has since evolved beyond the traditional café setting to focus heavily on coffee roasting and online sales, offering various single-origin beans like Brazil Cerrado, Colombia Belle Vista, and Baja Verapaz, Guatemala.

Today, Alchemy Coffee operates as both a community café and a dedicated coffee provider, offering their beans, apparel, and accessories for sale through their online shop. They also run a wholesale program for other businesses. Despite their expansion into roasting and online retail, they maintain their founding ethos, emphasizing that it’s “not just a café… It’s your café,” and continuing to offer a space rooted in community and high-quality coffee.
