Barrett’s Bar is an historic and traditional country pub located in Killeady, south of Cork City, with a history spanning nearly two centuries and remaining in the same family since the 1820s. Beyond its status as a classic “Rebel County crossroads pub,” it holds significant ties to Irish history; it was where freedom fighter Tom Barry formally joined the IRA in 1920, and Éamon de Valera once stayed overnight. The pub’s glorious history and welcoming atmosphere have been preserved through several generations of the Barrett family, even as they have evolved to meet the needs of the modern community, including through the creation of a newly refurbished outside patio area.

In a key modern development, the pub launched a country café called Tea Twelve at Barrett’s Bar within its lounge area, in partnership with experienced local chefs. This new venture complements the traditional bar by offering an all-day menu featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner, utilizing local produce and serving SOMA Coffee and sweet treats. Notably, the café places a strong emphasis on catering for dietary needs with a large gluten-free menu. This combination allows Barrett’s Bar to continue serving its famous stout and other drinks alongside a full-service café, blending its rich, two-century-old tradition with a contemporary, food-focused offering for both the pub’s established clientele and the wider, coffee-loving community.
