Market Lane – Review

I love the Market Lane. Since its opening at the end of Oliver Plunkett street I have eaten there several times and never been disappointed. It has a full bar license and doesn’t take bookings for small groups so we walked in and were lucky to get a table for three. The upstairs has more seating and can accommodate larger groups.

It had been a while since I had been so on a busy evening last weekend myself and two friends walked in around the 4pm mark for a bite to eat.

The restaurant was bustling with shoppers from sales and groups escaping the madding crowds of the city. We were greeted warmly and put in a great window seat to the right of the doorway.

We really weren’t that hungry as we had like most people overdosed n the goodies over Christmas. Our waitress arrived and gave us plenty of time to order.

I ordered their fish and chips (don’t sneer I was in that mood) and the other two ladies ordered the vegetarian option and their soup and sandwich option respectively. I can’t remember the exact descriptions of each as we were too busy chatting.

The food arrived promptly and we dived in. My fish was tasty and crisp with home made fries and mushy peas. The french onion soup of one of the girls was amazing (I had a sneaky taste) and the sandwich was on thick chunky bread and my friend seemed happy with it as she munched and chatted at the same time.

My other friend enjoyed her dish and declared it was perfect for her appetite. She had a glass of Pinot Grigio with her meal and my friend had sparkly water.

Two of us shared a chocolate desert and one tea and coffee.

The total came to €64.40 which we thought good value. The service was excellent, seating perfect and it was a welcome escape from Cork shopping.

We will be back.
